CD BOX SET

Drea Discography Designs is a physical portfolio piece created to represent my identity as a designer and bring together my love for music, design, and hands-on making. Inspired by vintage CD box sets, I reimagined the format as an interactive acrylic book that showcases my work, experiences, and creative interests.

I chose acrylic as the primary material to challenge myself to work beyond traditional bookmaking and explore how a rigid material could function as a flexible, foldable book. Through research, measurement, laser cutting, and weeks of prototyping, I developed a custom binding system that allowed the acrylic sheets to fold and close using strategically placed cuts and magnets.

Inside, the book combines a laser-cut CD with an NFC tag linking to my portfolio, a custom journal with collages and quotes about my experience at San Diego State University, stickers, business cards, and laser-cut phone screens featuring my UI/UX work of a music app I designed on Figma. I also created additional CD, phone screens, journals, and sticker variations to display and share at the SDSU portfolio exhibition.

The project allowed me to combine digital design with physical production while learning new techniques in laser cutting, fabrication, bookmaking, and interactive design. More than a portfolio piece, Drea Discography Designs became a way to bring together the different interests, skills, and experiences that have shaped me as a designer.
